The Haitian American Nurses Association of Garden State

The Mission

Our (HANA OF GARDEN STATE) is to promote healthcare and wellness within the Haitian and surrounding communities and abroad where health disparities exist through education. To offer opportunities for Haitian nurses and other professionals to serve, lead, educate and empower others toward a healthier lifestyle and be a catalyst for change on a local and global level.

HANA OF GARDEN STATE’s functions include the following:

To compile a local membership directory of Haitian nurses, and other health care professionals.
To promote leadership, professional and educational advancement of Haitian nurses to meet the health care needs of the Haitian population;
To identify the contributions that Haitian nurses or nurses serving the Haitian Community and or other professionals or institutions that contribute to the wellbeing of the Haitian population through research, education, and nursing practice;
To be recognized and used as a resource in the planning of health service delivery to the Haitian population and residents of New Jersey and surrounding communities.
To support and promote research activities and seek grant funding opportunities which address Haitian health promotion, illness prevention initiatives, and the improvement of health care problems and disparities common to Haitian ethnic clients and communities in accordance with Healthy People 2020 guidelines;
To help reduced health disparities among underserved population by promoting health maintenance using Evidenced-based Practice Guidelines; as well as be guided by the United Nations sustainable and development goals of 2030 relating to Health.
To guide Haitian foreign nurses to provide resources or information to obtain licensure to practice in New Jersey.
To engage in youth focused interventions.
To develop mentorship programs for nursing students, new graduate nurses and foreign trained nurses seeking licensure.
Coordinate, implement and participate in Community health fairs.
Organize, implement and participate in international medical missions.
Foster networking and education through radio, television and other social media.
